Fall Color Report, Colorado Aspens

Although there are small pockets of color in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, for the most part, the fall color display is still a few weeks away.  Shrine Road outside of Silverton is always the first to “bloom” and this year is no exception.  I scouted the Aspen Groves near Durango Mountain Resort, up along highway 550 North to Silverton and then west to Ophir Pass.  Here’s a sampling of today’s Aspens and grand landscape.

Our Fall Aspen Photography workshop is now scheduled for September 21-22 and September 28-29.  Register today and learn how to use your digital camera to capture this yearly Colorado spectacle.

I always like to see the Aspens as they reach the transition zone and mix with Spruce and Fir trees. The evergreens create a skyline of dark tones in this image © Kit Frost
